Install Gingerbread 2.3.6 XWJVX Firmware on Galaxy S I9000

Finally it’s here. Yes, the most awaited (not more than Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0) Gingerbread 2.3.6 version has arrived for the Samsung Galaxy S GT I9000 has arrived. So, in the due course of this article we will check out on how you can apply this update. This update comes at a time when most of the users faced some issues with the last few firmwares like XFJVA etc. which didn’t match the expectations of the users. Also, just in case if you are a Samsung Galaxy SL I9003 user then an all new Official Gingerbread 2.3.6 is in the making and the same will be released very soon. We will soon come up with the rooting process for the same too.
Last but not the least, this firmware of Gingerbread 2.3.6 is dubbed as XWJVX. This update comes at a time when in the last article we saw on how to update Galaxy SL I9003 with Gingerbread 2.3.6. We will also come up with the next version of Ice Cream Sandwich Android 4.0 which will enter into the beta stage on Samgalaxyseries.blogspot.com, so stay tuned for the action for your Galaxy S GT I9000 and other Android devices. Please note that this procedure should not be applied on network Locked devices and since its a Global update, anyone with their Galaxy S GT I9000 device can apply this update.

So, before proceeding you need to first ensure that you have followed all the pre Requisites which are mentioned in the below link. It’s very important for you to follow the instructions which are mentioned in the below link so as to facilitate the smoother, safer & faster firmware update.

Procedure to Update Latest XWJVX Gingerbread 2.3.6 Firmware on Galaxy S:
  • Before proceeding, you need to download Odin3_1.85.zip & Gingerbread 2.3.6 XWJVX firmware Zip Package in your computer and extract the both to desktop. In the process of extraction, you will be prompted to enter in the password, enter the password as “sampro.pl” without the inverted comas.

  • Once the files are extracted, you need to now match with the files which are shown in the below screen capture. Just in case if the contents get mismatched, you need to check with the file extraction or download. The total Size of Zipped File should be (MB).

  • From the extracted files, open the odin executable file in your computer and turn off the phone so that you cn then enter your phone into the download mode. The download mode can be entered by pressing Volume Down Key, Center button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. Refer below video for more on how to get into download mode.
  • Now, connect the phone in the download mode to the computer while keeping the Odin opened in your computer. As soon as you connect the phone, the ID : COM section will turn Yellow which will mean that all the drivers are successfully updated and you are now ready to proceed with the firmware update.

DANGER: Don’t proceed to the next step if the ID : COM Section doesn’t turn Yellow!
  • Up next Click on “PDA” tab and choose the file named as “JVX_JV3_JVT” which you can select from the extracted files. Once you select the same, click on the “Start” tab to start the process of firmware update. Please note that you will have to wait for 3 – 4 minutes till the process of firmware update is completed.

  • As soon as the firmware update process is done, the phone will be rebooting after which you will be prompted on screen to select the Language Settings as well as the Google Account Credentials. Once you see the home screen, you need to turn Off the phone. To heck on the firmware has successfully applied or not, you can check the same from the path “Applications > Settings > About Phone” where you will find the firmware version as XWJVX 2.3.6 Gingerbread version.
For users facing FORCE CLOSE ISSUES:
  • Just in case if you are facing issues like force close errors in your phone then you need to turn off the phone and then you need to enter into the recovery mode.
  • Now, turn Off the phone so that you can then enter into the recovery mode. The recovery mode can be entered by pressing  Volume UP Key + OK button, and holding both simultaneously press the Power Button. You can also refer to the below mentioned video to know more on how to enter into the recovery mode.
  • In the recovery mode select Wipe data/factory reset and also you need to select Wipe Cache partition and then reboot your device by selecting reboot system now option.
Note: Just in case if the power goes Off or the process of firmware update is interrupted due to un avoidable reasons, then reinsert the battery, again enter into the download mode to follow the instructions from the start again. No need to panic. In Download Mode everything is safe. Also, don’t forget to restore back the data which you have backed up so that you can easily use all the services like before your phone was in.
